We are so excited to announce our Spring 2025 regatta schedule! This semester, your CUST Lions will be traveling up and down the East Coast in hopes of continuing our great results from the fall.
Our busy schedule starts off with the Seawolf Women's Open, graciously hosted by Stony Brook University in beautiful Port Jefferson, NY (I may be biased as my family are members of PJYC). Next, we end our spring breaks with the Admiral Moore Team Race, hosted by SUNY Maritime right on NYC's East River! This is our only team race of the semester, and we're looking to establish a baseline in competition against some great teams from MAISA.
The following weekend, we will be sending teams to two different regattas! First up is the Stony Book Cup Open, which will provide a good opportunity for some of our less experienced members to race with the more experienced men on our team, as the women will be in Annapolis for MAISA Spring Women's, hosted by the Naval Academy. That regatta's roster is shaping up to be strong competition for our Lionesses, but we think that they have what it takes to show the rest of MAISA that we're made of tough stuff up here in Morningside Heights!
We round out our confirmed schedule in April, starting with The Grant, hosted in Chestertown, Maryland, by Washington College. You may remember that we claimed a stunning second-place finish in the single race for last semester's Luce Regatta here, which was unfortunately cancelled due to a lack of wind, meaning that we could not compete in our fall conference championship, the War Memorial Regatta. We're hoping that our two crab-loving Marylanders, Co-Captain Chase and Secretary Amelia, do their special wind dance to ensure some good weather this time around! If we perform well at the Grant, we will qualify for our spring conference championship, the America Trophy, hosted by Cornell!
In any case, if we do not qualify, we will still be sailing that weekend! The final regatta on our schedule for this spring is the George E. Morris Open Fleet Race, hosted by Boston University. Heading up to Beantown will give us a great opportunity to test our lightly-seasoned sailors against the over-seasoned rosters of our Northeastern neighbors, but whatever the results end up being, I know we'll have fun!
This semester is already looking great, and we are so excited to sustain the momentum that our team has built over the last year and become a permanent, competitive program in MAISA. We would not be able to train under our wonderful coach, Loghlen, at Larchmont Yacht Club without the support of our alumni and parents, and for that, we are eternally grateful!
