CUST Wins the Coho Memorial Regatta
Conditions: light southern breeze of 5-8 knots, current, and no waves
On Saturday, September 13, the team traveled to the Webb Institute on Long Island to compete in the Coho Memorial Regatta. The day started with a light southern breeze of 5-8 knots and a strong current, but the lions absolutely crushed it. Eva DeCastro ‘28 and Wren Greeley-Havard ‘28 got a 1 and 2 in A fleet, while Alex Ching ‘28 and Raina Jaeggli ‘28 got a 3 and 2 in B. Unfortunately, the wind completely died off, and racing was postponed for 30 minutes. Then, the wind filled back in at about 10-15 knots from the west, and racing was resumed. Nadia Fisch ‘28 subbed in as the A division crew for her first regatta as a Columbia Lion and brought home 4 first-place finishes in a row. Giulio Basilico ‘27 subbed in as the B division crew and also secured multiple race wins. A full round robin was completed on Saturday, so no racing occurred on Sunday. The team finished the regatta in first place, 21 points ahead of the second-place team.
This weekend, the women’s team will travel to Princeton for the Tiger Women’s Open, and the coed team will travel to Stony Brook for the Stony Brook Fall Open. Stay tuned!
