Conditions: Westerly 5–15 knots, puffy and shifty with current. Waves 1–3 feet, building throughout the day.
On Saturday, September 6th, the Lions competed at the KP Women’s Invite to kick off the fall season. Racing began in a westerly breeze at 5–15 knots with waves steadily building through the day. In A division, Elizabeth Frost (’27) and Stella Densley (’27) started strong, staying in phase with the shifts and battling through the puffy conditions. Midway through the day, Wren Greeley-Havard (’28) rotated into A fleet as crew for races 5–8, keeping the boat fast through the waves and helping secure solid finishes to close out the afternoon.
In B division, Eva DeCastro (’28) and Amelia Thomas (’27) found their stride in the middle of the day, stringing together a series of consistent results and securing a bullet in the combined fleet’s sixth race. As the afternoon wore on, the breeze remained shifty and the current played a major role in decision-making upwind and downwind. The Lions stayed focused, putting together competitive races across both divisions. By 2:30pm, rain and thunderstorms rolled in, forcing racing to end early after eight races were completed.
On Sunday, competitors waited on shore through light rain and calm conditions. Racing was postponed until 11:30am before being officially called off due to lack of breeze.
With eight races sailed, the Lions finished 3rd overall—a strong start to the season and a promising showing for the Women’s team as they look ahead to the weeks to come.
