The Luce Trophy

Conditions: Day 1: 4-8kts, Day 2: 15-25 kts

The Lions flew to Virginia for the Luce Trophy looking to qualify the team for the War Memorial. Eva DeCastro (‘28) and Amelia Thomas (‘27) competed in A fleet while Elizabeth Frost (‘27) and Nadia Fisch (‘28) competed in B fleet for the entire weekend with no alternates. On day 1 the wind was light and we were able to get almost three sets off before noon until the wind shut off and both teams came in for a lunch break. After the wind shifted to the east, racing was back on. The Lions had some consistent racing with A fleet getting two first place finishes and B fleet never dropping below 4th place. The day finished with 6 total races in each division.

On day 2, the wind was strong at 15 kts and puffs up to 25. The lions held on, maintaining consistent scores to keep them in the top three as other teams dropped off, fatigued from the heavy wind. B fleet finished it off with a bullet, finishing overall in third, qualifying the team for the War Memorial, and leaving team spirits high!

Now we’re off to compete at both our Co-ed and Women’s Conference Championships!
