MAISA Women's Fall Dinghy

The women’s team flew to Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia to compete at the MAISA Women’s Fall Dinghy. The wind started off light and built after three races, perfect for testing our skills in all conditions and a complete flip from conditions at the Luce. Elizabeth Frost (27’) and Amelia Thomas (27’) battled it out in A fleet while Eva DeCastro (28’) and Tara Sangal (25’) took on B fleet, both boats competing against the top sailors in the country. This was Amelia and Tara’s first regatta with Columbia Sailing, and Tara’s first regatta ever. All four sailors did an incredible job pushing their physical limits in the breezy conditions during the long race days. Both teams finished the day with a strong set and top 5 finishes. 

Sunday started off with a breeze of 6-8kts and built again throughout the day. Both teams focused on improving tactical skills and keeping their head out of the boat to gain as much experience as possible from this competitive fleet. We finished in 12th out of 17 teams, and each finished 10th in our respective fleets. We are so excited by this experience to learn and grow as we know we have so much more potential. Thank you so much to Coach Loghlen for grounding us as we tackled each set, battling through the mental struggles the conditions and fleet created. Also, we would not have been able to travel to this regatta without the support of our alumni, parents, and friends, so thank you so much and we look forward to continuing to compete on the national level!
